Creating an email alias in Lotus Notes

by Vaughan Rivett on September 8, 2009

This video shows you how to create an email address in Lotus Notes. To do this you will need to have administrative rights to your Lotus Domino directory.

When would you want to use an email alias?

1. When you have more than one email address (I guess that is obvious)
2. If someone leaves the company and you would like their Lotus Notes email to go to another user, if you have deleted the account of the person leaving. In this case the email address would be the address of the person who has left.
3. If you wanted to send email for a generic user to one person. For instance, sales@rivettassociates.com. In this case you would add that address to the person document of the person who you wish to send the email to.

You do need to be careful with this. I would suggest that you search the domino directory first as you don’t want to add an address if it already exists for another user in the address book and this would create a conflict.
